The 11-year old Holly Springs Express outlasted the competition to place second in thr prestigous and highly-competitive Triple Crown and West Forsyth Georgia State Double Elimination Tournament.
A rare loss early in bracket play provided The Railyard Boys" the opportunity to showcase their teams' tenacity, character, talent, heart and ability to overcome adversity/fatique by playing Six (6) games in a 24 hour time period, inlcuding the championship game against the Bandits.
In reponse to this team's performance, an informed specator (not associated with HSE) noted "Holly Springs proved their worth way before the championship game rolled around and deserves a lot of credit for this tournament."
In response a injury (hard hit ball off the pitcher's hand and chest) which tesulted in only minor swelling and bruising, the same observer said,
"This kid took a hard line drive off this hand and chest that took him to the ground. This kid was hurt and was in a great amount of pain but tried his best to pick the ball up for his team and throw the runner out. One of the greatest displays of heart seen in a long time... Some things a Coach can teach and the kids can learn but this type thing is something you either have or you don't. It is a special gift given from above and this kid must have stayed in line and got 2 doses of it. What heart, What effort and What desire you have. I will keep this play in my memory for a long time.
Currently ranked #9 in the state as of March 22nd, the 11-year old Holly Springs Express was recently recognized as the spotlight team of the week by the League Line-up Website. Below are excerpts from the article that appeared on-line.
"This Holly Springs team...has really played well as a team. They are one of the best defensive teams out there and have been known to upset some pretty powerful teams in the major division...I believe this team would be a top 3 team..."
"Last season they beat teams like the 6-4-3 Cougars, NYO, Styxx Baseball, Elite Gamers Red, and I saw them play the Bandits in a close game losing only 10 to 9. This season they played a great game against Team Georgia our #2 ranked team losing only by a couple of runs.
"What Holly Springs does well is throw strikes, put the ball in play on offense, and play consistent defense game after game. The first thing you see when you watch this team play is that they are very well coached."
"If you want to watch a good display of defense on the baseball diamond I encourage you to go watch Coach Fitzgerald and the Holly Springs Express!"
